The Napkin Lady

It's April--which means The Napkin Lady is out! Isn't she amazing? My mom blogged about her first...and I highly recommend her thoughts. This antique napkin holder was my great, great grandmother's. My mother displays the napkin lady every April, the birth month of my grandmother...but really, I wish she was out all the time, don't you?

I love Lucy and the Lake
So it's not a secret that I love the name Lucy. This past week in Bear Lake I came across the neatest thing in an antique shop in Fish Haven, ID (it's a very small town bordering th lake). To give you a tiny bit of background...my grandfather, Kent Smith grew up there. I feel connected to the place--it's history and beauty, the land, and the lake.
Now, back to the cool thing I found...

These are post cards sent to Lucy Smith...a relative of mine back in the early 1900s. How crazy is that??? One from a friend (middle), one from her sister (top), and one from her future spouse (bottom).
My favorite line comes from Lucy's friend in Honolulu.

"I would like to come home just long enough to tell some of the folks that they are in the Best Part of the hole world. Though this is a pretty good place."
Now, I've never been to Hawaii, but to Lucy's credit, I am sure that I would have been friends with H.J. too, if she can write a post card while in Honolulu and call Bear Lake the best part of the "hole" world.
